The Promises of God – A Word by Rev. Melissa Pearce

Rev. Melissa Pearce

Email: [email protected]

Reflecting on last year, we’ve all experienced dramatic change in our lives as we have been forced to adjust and adapt to a new norm in a pandemic world. We now need to learn to live differently as we navigate the fallout of the epidemic, and we are still on a perilous journey facing the uncertainty of what lies ahead.

Even though our outward circumstances have caused us to adapt to a difficult changing world, one constant that we can confidently and faithfully cling to is the promises of God.

For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us. 2 Corinthians 1:20 (NKJV)

God’s promises are ‘Yes’ and ‘Amen.’ God wants our faith to arise in Him again. God wants us to see ourselves as purposeful, productive, prosperous, and powerful in Him. I believe that this has been difficult for many of us to realize. Too many of us have allowed the circumstances of the pandemic to dictate our value.

As people of faith, we do not allow our situations to dictate our worth or our purpose. There is one Author and Finisher, and He is the One who has already solidified our worth and purpose.

…looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:2 (NKJV)

God wants to reset our thoughts and break us free from the victim mentality. The victim mentality is when we have allowed life’s circumstances to dictate our worth and influence our purpose. We find ourselves stuck and not living the abundant life Jesus has given to us.

The author of Hebrews gives us the antidote to get back on course.

We are first to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus. Jesus is the Way, and He will always lead us down the best path for us. The minute we focus on what is going on around us, we lose sight of the direction we need to take. We cannot trust in our understanding; instead, we need to acknowledge Him in all our ways.

We are to embrace our faith and join God in the journey that lies ahead. God does not want us bound by fear, but we are to walk by faith, realizing that what God began in our lives, He can bring to completion. Faith embraces and operates in the promises of God. God’s promises are nonnegotiable, and culture cannot cancel them.

For this reason I also suffer these things; nevertheless I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day. 2 Timothy 1:12 (NKJV)

When we walk by faith, we know Who we have believed in and we are confident that He will not fail us.

Finally, we are to endure. Despite our difficulties, quitting is never an option. We faithfully march forward in God’s grace. Grace is a promise from God.

And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work. 2 Corinthians 9:8 (NKJV)

As we persevere, God’s grace abounds enabling us to prevail and to gain complete sufficiency in all things.

Take time to reflect on the goodness of God and the promises He has given to you. When you embrace the promises of God, you will walk in His empowerment. You were born to be an influencer, a game-changer, a pioneer for His Kingdom. Don’t allow your circumstances to confuse the truth about who God has deemed you to be. The Breaker has already gone before you. It’s time for you to break out from under the victim mentality and to embrace His promises.

Many Blessings,

Rev. Melis~
