2 Methods To Help Christians Hear God’s Voice…

on

“My sheep will hear my voice…” – Jesus.

This should be a pretty simple article – Jesus spestruggleaks and we listen.

Simple enough, right? However, learning to hear the voice of God is usually more than “just listen”.

Now, let me begin with saying that I grew up in a pentecoastal tongue-talking church where the voice of God and his leading held power and respect.  Hoever, I found that too many times we were sitting in church “waiting” for Holy Spirit to speak through a word of interpretation (which is awesome), and therefore  we often ignored all of the other ways that God was speaking.

I have found through the prophetic ministry that God will often speak in the way that we are “open” to hear his voice.  So, to hear God is not a mystery – but many times a reality to the fact that God IS speaking, and how we can hear the voice of the divine.

“Lord, I need to hear your voice on _______________.”

You can fill in the blank with truly anything!

– my marriage

– our business

– our church

– my purpose

– the person I am praying for

You get it?

If you have ANY question or need you need to speak to Holy Spirit for wisdom.  I have found there are 2 methods to hear that which God speaks.

First, you have ACTIVE listening.  You ask Holy Spirit, and then you simply be quiet and listen.  This is not a time for praying or making your petitions known – it’s a time to ask and then listen.  God will speak through his voice, small or violently loud, through impressions, or any other way he chooses and you are open to hear…

Secondly, many times we do not “hear” as we approach God, and therefore we get discouraged. However, we often hear God “more passively” – as you go.

Passive listening is listening to the “voice” of God through your daily walk.  Many times it may be the still small voice, or it may be his voice through other people and life’s circumstances.  Those moments of inspiration and confirmation through other people are very often how we hear the voice of God.

Remember it is not always a “Thus saith the Lord”, for as we host the presence of Holy Spirit we are all conduits of the voice of the divine.

Ask Holy Spirit, and then expect God to speak through you and through others.

My sheep hear my voice.  The promise of Jesus is for us all… ask and expect to hear the voice.  Active and passive, the voice is for you.
