A Love of Vanity
One night I was sleeping and I heard angels talking around me, as if I wasn’t in the room. I heard one of the angels say, “her problem is idolatry”. Being hungry to get to the solution I began to pray about idolatry and I asked the Lord to show me what my sin of idolatry was.
It took several dreams, bible scriptures and conviction of the Holy Spirit, but I was soon aware of the location of my sin. I had made an idol of myself while seeking to be beautiful.
“Grace will save a man but it will not save him and his idol. The blood of Christ will shield the penitent sinner alone, but never the sinner and his idol. Faith will justify the sinner, but it will never justify the sinner and his sin” (A.W. Tozer).
One Sunday I was in church worshiping. I felt so in love with God and I told him that I would give all myself to him, holding nothing back. Then I clearly heard him say, “Even your beauty?” Ouch…I could not answer that instantly. My mind wandered, as I thought about what being ugly would do to me. But my heart was sold out for God and if it meant that I would spend a life being hideous just to have more of him, then I would do it

Of course, our words are always tested by the fire of God. I felt the Holy Spirit lead me to lay down makeup for 2 weeks and to publicly display my natural looking face. This challenge may not sound like a big deal to you, but for me it was the biggest thing I could imagine. Due to years of sunbathing, my skin was beat up with dark sun spots and discolorations. Because of my bad eating habits, I had acne and dark eye circles. I looked like a gross monster without makeup. But I chose God above myself, so I humbly obeyed.
I remember going into church and the way people would look at me. I felt like I stood out like an alien. Heads were turning in my direction, but no one had the nerve to say anything negative. One woman, bless her heart, came up to me so concerned and asked if my health was okay (apparently I looked like I was dying!). I’m serious, it was really bad.
There I stood in front of the entire church at the altar. I bowed to my knees and I said to the Lord, “here I am, all of me. I surrender all to you. Take even my beauty”. Then the fire of God inflamed my body in a massive heat wave and I felt such a strong union with the Holy Spirit. I sat there and wept in front of the church, as if it was just me and God.
Nothing do I withhold from the lover of my soul. There is power in repentance, but there is also so much power in surrender.
God promises to give beauty for ashes. Anything that you lay down on the altar of surrender to the King of Kings, he will fill with his glorious light.
“To bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning,
and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness,
a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor” (Isaiah 61:3).
A TURNAROUND FOR YOU..
A word by Dana Jarvis
I decree you are making the spiritual journey from the bondage of Egypt into your promised land of destiny. I know you have grown weary. Do not let the murmurings and complaining attitudes rule you. It causes the faith to waiver! Your focus is upon the cup of bitter waters that you are currently drinking from.
Rest assured that your God is making these bitter waters sweet!
You shall taste and see that the Lord is good! You are going to see such extravagance in your daily life. He is delivering much into your hands so reach up and take hold. Just as he was with you before, he is with you now. You are going to drink deep of the Living Waters. The bitter waters of life have tried to steal all joy.
However I hear the Lord say, “It is done, I am the Lord who heals you. I am the Lord who will restore you. I am the Lord who will provide your every need. I am the One that is making the bitter waters sweet!”
I feel so strongly that God is removing your cup of bitter waters you have had to drink for so long. He is causing a turnaround for you in a situation that you desperately need him to move. I am speaking to several and know this word is for you. Even as the Lord led Moses and the children of Israel from their bondage at the Red Sea, it still took one step of faith. One step of faith is all it takes to cause a release from all of this. Take a moment and sow into good ground by giving into Spirit Fuel. For just a contribution of $25, $50, or even $100 or more given into Spirit Fuel is an active step and good ground on which to sow. It is a powerful ministry reaching the world for Christ. As you sow that offering, it is that act of faith that will cause the Red Sea where you are standing to part in your life. The bitter cup will be removed and the sweetness of the Lord shall begin to flow!
