Beauty for Ashes – A Word by Paula Wiens

While I was at the lake fishing I looked across and saw this burnt, charred, black tree. Quite a few trees were burnt, some almost to the ground during a fire that had happened awhile back.

As I looked at this tree closer, zooming in on my camera,  I noticed that there were leaves around that did not look like the others. There actually were leaves on that burnt up tree! And here I thought it was dead!

Sometimes that’s how we think, feel or sense about a ministry God has given us. We might sense that others feel we shouldn’t be in ministry at all.  People do talk, and there are times we can discern in the spirit ones speaking against us.

Or we might be actually allowing fear to come in and tell us that we are not smart enough or educated enough to fulfill what God has called us to do. I have always said that I don’t speak good English, that I am from the south and I speak “Southernese”  But God didn’t choose us because we are perfect, and have the best English, have the most money or have gone to the best Bible Colleges. He chose us because of who He created us to be. And sometimes we doubt ourselves because of our past, or unforgiveness of ourselves. Not seeing ourselves through the eyes of the Father. Or, we feel we are too “Burnt” up from the things in life that have happened to us, or we have done.

We have to know that we know what God has spoken to us in that secret place. We have to spend time with the Father to know His voice. We have to trust Him and rely on Him and not our thinking, feelings or emotions.

We have to know that He said He will never leave us nor forsake us. Even when we feel He isn’t even around. Like He has disappeared or we feel our prayers aren’t being answered,  or we can’t see the promises that He promised us with our eyes.

We have to stay connected to the vine. To keep attached to the root. To stay in His word, sitting at the feet of Jesus, knowing that we know that we know that He will never leave us nor forsake us, as some believe.

We have to know that He will continue the work He began in us, and will turn our ashes into beauty.

And that you will be a tree of Righteousness planted by the Lord producing good fruit.  Flourishing in all that God has called you to.

Thank you Father God!  Be Glorified today in Me. Allow me to speak what you have called me to speak. To do what you have called me to do and be the hands and feet of Jesus all the days of my life.

In Jesus name Amen.

No branch can bear fruit by itself: it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. 5  I am the vine: you are the branches.
