Connie Hunter-Urban: What Are We Doing Here Anyway?
THE FOLLOWING ARTICLE WAS WRITTEN BY MY HUSBAND, WADE URBAN.
2 Cor. 13:5-6, “Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves that Jesus Christ is in you? – unless indeed you are disqualified. But I trust that you will know that we are not disqualified.”
Are you marking time, just barely hanging on until Jesus comes back to snatch you away, or could you just be waiting in a holding pen (typical church) to die so you can go to heaven?
Eph. 5:15-16, “See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil.”
What does redeeming the time mean to you? Are you redeeming time or merely wasting it? Are you making the most of your God-given gifts and calling in Christ? Are you fulfilling your purpose in life, or do you mourn over lost opportunities? What is your vision and how are you seeing it manifested?
Prov. 29:18, “Where there is no revelation (vision), the people cast off restraint (perish).”
Without a vision, you have, in effect, relinquished your future to the god of this world – the prince of the power of the air! He determines what you’ll have in your future. That’s the very reason much of the church is in a crisis management mode today, going from one mess to another. Without a VISION you’ll continually be spending your time trying to survive when Holy Spirit has made provision for you to thrive!
What has Holy Spirit called you to do? What preparations have you made? Preparation always precedes blessing and victory. Without proper preparation, defeat is imminent. Failure and defeat are guaranteed! What is this life “in Christ” all about anyway? Is it just to go to church, put a dollar in the offering plate, and occupy a seat as part of an audience to be entertained? What’s keeping you from advancing in His call for your life? What exactly are you living for? What’s holding you back from moving forward in Christ? Do you really believe Jesus Christ died, was resurrected, ascended to Father’s right hand, then released Holy Spirit into the world and into your life so that you could sit around doing nothing with His Gift with His potential in your life going unrealized, buried, and unused?
Remember Jesus parable of the “wicked servant who buried the talent his master gave him?”(Matt. 25:14-30). Jesus said, “Therefore take the talent from him, and give it to him who has ten talents. For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away. And cast out the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” I didn’t say this. Jesus did! It’s in red letters in your Bible!
Others might say, “I’m just not ready to step out; I don’t know enough!” That’s the poorest excuse for inactivity. Those who offer that as a reason are like those Paul warned Timothy of “always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of truth” (2 Tim.3: 7). Why? This exists because of lack of experience walking by faith and no experience in Holy Spirit.
You might hold the excuse that you don’t have any time to pursue God’s call. If that’s the case, you’re too busy! I believe we all have time to do what we want to do. Perhaps it comes down to where and what our priorities really are. Let’s be truthful and call it what it is – lack of commitment.

I believe the main culprit for most inactivity is fear of the unknown which creates bondage to what is familiar and comfortable, even if it’s unhealthy, unprofitable, even immoral and miserable. Macho men might say they aren’t afraid of anything, but their lack of faith undermines that statement. They will never go beyond their comfort zone of their current understanding of God nor will they explore the regions where faith in God can take them. They hear a salvation message every Sunday, even though they’ve been saved 50 years and have never gone beyond the “brazen altar” of the Cross. They fear what they don’t understand, having no desire for deeper truth for fear of drowning in God’s River of Life. Do you really believe you are living by faith if you continually live in your comfort zone of familiarity in your current understanding of God? Is fear holding you back from a deeper experience in Him? Are you afraid to go beyond where you’ve been or where you’re uncomfortable? Are you afraid of what others will say about you? Are you afraid of the power of God in your life? Or, are you afraid of having to get rid of things you’re still hanging on to?
Here’s the truth: Nothing you can hang onto in this world can compare to the glory of God which awaits those who will pursue His presence! The spirit of fear resides in the Hittite stronghold (Deut. 7:1). This stronghold must be destroyed in your life, or fear will keep you static, paralyzed, never able to move forward into the deeper things of God. Fear is a major force which satan uses along with our lack of knowledge (ignorance) which brings bondage and destruction to our lives (Hos. 4:6; Isa. 5:13). 2 Tim. 1:7 states that we have not received the spirit of fear of power, love, and a sound mind (the mind of Christ).
Fear and ignorance will keep you from your true inheritance in Christ – life in Holy Spirit. Paul confirmed this in his prayer in Eph. 1:17-23 when he prayed that the Ephesians would receive the Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of their understanding being enlightened so that they may know what is the hope of His calling, the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and the exceeding greatness of His resurrection power resident in Holy Spirit. Fear along with ignorance of God’s word will keep you from your destinies of becoming partners with Holy Spirit and serving as His transfer agents of heaven to earth (2 Cor. 1:20; 2 Pet.1:2-4).
In Lev. 21:17-24, the Lord gave Moses a prohibition against any of the Levities having certain outward defects in or on their bodies being allowed to minister before God. Those outward defects of the Levites in the Old Covenant are symbolic of inner defects within us as today’s kings and priests. This passage clearly reflects that whatever lies latent within us will eventually be ministered through us to others. The truth is that we can’t minister what we don’t have, but we will minister to others what we do have.
Prov. 29:25 – “The fear of man brings a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord shall be safe.”
The time has come for you to deal with the spirit of fear and symptoms it causes in bodies and minds once and for all. Fear is the ruling power behind anger and rage and plays a role in bitterness, hatred, and self-rejection. Let’s get free of whatever’s hanging on and keeping you from fully entering into fullness of life in Christ and so we can liberate others. The stumbling block of fear prevents many believers from moving out of their comfort zones into the destiny God has ordained for them. Whether your life has been driven by lack of vision or preparation, squandering your time or talents, or being paralyzed by fear, it’s time to focus on your purpose and God’s destiny for your life. Amen.
A TURNAROUND FOR YOU..
A word by Dana Jarvis
I decree you are making the spiritual journey from the bondage of Egypt into your promised land of destiny. I know you have grown weary. Do not let the murmurings and complaining attitudes rule you. It causes the faith to waiver! Your focus is upon the cup of bitter waters that you are currently drinking from.
Rest assured that your God is making these bitter waters sweet!
You shall taste and see that the Lord is good! You are going to see such extravagance in your daily life. He is delivering much into your hands so reach up and take hold. Just as he was with you before, he is with you now. You are going to drink deep of the Living Waters. The bitter waters of life have tried to steal all joy.
However I hear the Lord say, “It is done, I am the Lord who heals you. I am the Lord who will restore you. I am the Lord who will provide your every need. I am the One that is making the bitter waters sweet!”
I feel so strongly that God is removing your cup of bitter waters you have had to drink for so long. He is causing a turnaround for you in a situation that you desperately need him to move. I am speaking to several and know this word is for you. Even as the Lord led Moses and the children of Israel from their bondage at the Red Sea, it still took one step of faith. One step of faith is all it takes to cause a release from all of this. Take a moment and sow into good ground by giving into Spirit Fuel. For just a contribution of $25, $50, or even $100 or more given into Spirit Fuel is an active step and good ground on which to sow. It is a powerful ministry reaching the world for Christ. As you sow that offering, it is that act of faith that will cause the Red Sea where you are standing to part in your life. The bitter cup will be removed and the sweetness of the Lord shall begin to flow!
