Exceedingly Great And Precious Promises – A Word by Peggy Morris

Prior to facing affliction, our Heavenly Father gives us His very great and precious promises. I have so many examples of this, not just in my own life but also in the lives of so many people I know.

God’s promises have been my lifeline. I cannot even begin to tell you how much these promises meant to me. Each one held such a deep, personal invitation. They were saturated in peace and love. They touched the very core of who I am and spoke healing over me. These promises held great power, great movement, and great encouragement. There was also a releasing, allowing me to let go of everything I had known and to move into the new of what God was doing. When it is God making the promise, you can bank on it! “God is not a man that He can change His mind, or lie”. Numbers 23:19 For He remembers His holy promise Ps. 105:42a NKJ

In Genesis, Abraham left his home and set out not knowing where God would lead him. The promises of God gave him the incentive to leave everything behind and to follow the voice of God at the age of 75. God’s promises have a way of propelling you into the unknown. His promises to Abraham were beyond his comprehension, bigger than he could wrap his brain around. The Word of God tells us that “He who is able to (carry out His purpose and) do superabundantly more than all that we dare ask or think (infinitely beyond our greatest prayers, hopes, or dreams), according to His power that is at work within us.” (Eph. 3:20 AMP)

The Lord gave the children of Israel a promise before Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan. “And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “Send men to spy out the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the children of Israel.” Numbers 13:1 NKJ

Moses sent them on their way with this encouragement, “Be of good courage, and bring some of the fruit of the land.” (v.20)

They went to the land and did all that Moses had told them to do. The land was clearly everything that the Lord had said it would be, in abundance! In fact, it was so plentiful that they had to carry grapes on a pole between two men.

It took them forty days to complete the task, then they returned to Moses and the Israelite people, and to God and gave their report: Yes, everything you said was true! An abundant land, flowing with milk and honey. But . . .

Ten of the spies could not see past the physical aspects of what they saw. They could not see how on earth they could go in and possess the land since the “people who dwell in the land are strong; the cities are fortified and very large”. And, “we saw the descendants of Anak (giants) there.” (Numbers 13:28-29 NKJ)

It was Caleb that tried to quiet the people, telling them, “Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it.” (v 30)

“But the men who had gone up with him said, “We are not able to go up against the people, for they are stronger than we.” And they gave the children of Israel a bad report of the land which they had spied out, saying, “The land through which we have gone as spies is a land that devours its inhabitants, and all the people whom we saw in it are men of great stature. There we saw the giants (the descendants of Anak came from the giants); and we were like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight.” (Numbers 13:30-33 NKJ)

“The whole community was in an uproar, wailing all night long. All the People of Israel grumbled against Moses and Aaron. The entire community was in on it: “Why has God brought us to this country to kill us? Our wives and children are about to become plunder. Why don’t we just head back to Egypt? And right now!

Soon they were all saying it to one another: “Let’s pick a new leader; let’s head back to Egypt.”” Numbers 14:1-4 MSG

The people chose to listen to the news of the bad report(ers), the voice of the ten, instead of the report of Caleb and Joshua. But the bottom line was that it didn’t really matter if they listened to the voices of Caleb and Joshua, the point was that they rejected and refused to listen to the voice of God! HE had already given them the promise that they needed to secure the land, but they could not, or would not receive it. They had forgotten that The Lord is not slack concerning His promise. 2 Peter 3:9 NKJ

We have so many voices coming at us right now, but it’s important that we keep our ear pressed tightly to the lips of God. His voice is the only “news” we need to hear! He has already given us His promises and it’s vital that we cling to them! When the voice of doubt and fear knock on your door, slam it shut and bar it with the promises of God!

“Now God has offered to us the same promise of entering into His realm of resting in confident faith. So we must be extremely careful to ensure that we all embrace the fullness of that promise and not fail to experience it. For we have heard the good news of deliverance just as they did, yet they didn’t join their faith with the Word.  Instead, what they heard didn’t affect them deeply, for they doubted. For those of us who believe, faith activates the promise and we experience the realm of confident rest!” (Hebrews 4:1-3 TPT)

God is asking if we would believe His promises, and join our faith with His Word, even though times are hard and things don’t look the way we think they should. His promises anchor us and become a lifeline in times of trouble. They are a “hedging” around us that protect and guide us. They uphold our steps in His paths, that our footsteps may not slip. Ps. 17:4 NKJ His promises fill us with HIS peace and steady our hearts. They give us strength to stand firm and not move from what He whispered to our heart. As for God, His way is perfect; The word of the Lord is proven; He is a shield to all who trust in Him. Ps 18:30 NKJ (HE) You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in You. Is. 26:3 NKJ

When God’s children hold on to the promises of God, and do not waver from them, victory is sure and secure!

I will hear what God the Lord will speak, for He will speak peace to His people and to His saints. Mercy and truth have met together; righteousness and peace have kissed. Truth shall spring out of the earth, and righteousness shall look down from heaven. Yes, the Lord will give what is good; and our land will yield its increase. Righteousness will go before Him, and shall make His footstep our pathway.

Ps. 85:8, 10-13 NKJ
