Eyes on Me

Recently I have had a scene I once saw on a movie on my mind. It has come to mind repeatedly, I know God is speaking to me however, I also believe He is speaking to many of us in this phrase.closeup

In the movie scene, there was a teacher and a group of kids. She was trying to get a point across but the kids were distracted by many things going on around them. Suddenly she raised her voice and said ‘EYES ON ME! EYES ON ME!.’ At that moment, every child turned his/her attention to the teacher and kept it there.

Although it is such a simple thing, many times God has brought this to my mind and said the same thing to me…’EYES ON ME KIM, EYES ON ME.’

I was thinking about this very thing last week when I received an email from Kelita with a word God had given her, I want to share it with you today:

“All the issues, whether pain, family, money, or even death, all these issues the enemy uses to distract you. Look away! Look away! And look to ME. Press into Me. As you see Me, you will find the greatness I have put within you – for the greatness is of ME! Don’t allow other things to steal your time and attention – learn to look away and look to ME! Even the things that are hurtful and seem necessary to deal with – take the time to look to ME – THEN I will instruct you what to do – IF anything. Most things will not require a second glance once you have seen Me. And the ones that do will be but a brief one at that. If you find yourself surrounded by this and that and the clutter of the mind, issues of the day, of life, demanding your attention, KNOW that if you will just look to ME, I will instruct, heal, and provide for every situation says the Lord. Selah!”

Even as I write this today I am reminded of what Bryson and Brailee’s school does when the kids are all in one room and become distracted by other things.

When this occurs, the Principal will lift his hand, only one hand is raised. When the kids see this they all know what it means and each kid also raises a hand and become silent. Across the room becomes silent and all you see are lifted hands.

I think both these lessons from teachers and children are relevant to us today, don’t you? Eyes on me and lift your hands (to God.)

Hebrews 12:1-2 says; “Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.”

Isaiah 26:3 says; “You will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed upon You, because he trusts in you.”

They word ‘stayed’ in this verse means to rest, to lean upon and to support or brace oneself. In other words, regardless of what is going on around us, we are to rest our mind, our thoughts, our concerns upon Jesus, upon God. We are to lean on Him only and brace ourselves on Him and His unchanging word. For it is only then will we have that perfect peace He speaks of.

Recently, in my area of the world, we had severe drought, wild fires that took many lives and properties, and finally we had rain. The rain brought floods and then we had tornados. Through it all, I kept reminding Breanne to not get her mind on those things. It wasn’t easy, but we must keep our mind on God always.

I realize this is not always something that comes easy, but it is possible. Just as Kelita’s word said ‘if we keep our eyes on Him, He will instruct us.’ We have need of nothing else.

Today I feel God is saying to all of us…’eyes on me! Eyes on Me!’ Look only to God, that is where your help comes from, look only to Him.
