Fit For The Master’s Use – A Word by Elaine Tavolacci

There is a story in the book of 1 Samuel chapter 16 about the calling of King David. The Lord told the Prophet Samuel to fill his horn with oil and go to anoint one of Jesse’s sons to be the next King. Each one of Jesse’s sons passed before Samuel. The first one named Eliab passed before him. Samuel thought that surely he was the one to anoint because he considered his outward appearance. But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
The Lord has a specific calling for each one of us. Although David’s brothers were used of God mightily and they all had unique callings, they were not chosen to be the King of Israel. Abinadab then passed before him. Abinadab had a son named Eleazar who was consecrated to guard the ark of the covenant in Abinadabs house after it was returned from Palestinian captivity.(1 Samuel 7:1). It remained in his house for twenty years. He then had Shammah pass before him. Shammah was the warrior who is credited with having single-highhandedly defeated the Philistine soldiers at a lentil patch. He may also be the man who defeated 600 men of the Philistines with an ox goad.
Samuel then asked Jesse if he had any other sons and he said “yes the youngest son who is tending the sheep’. Samuel replied, “Send for him; we will not sit down until he arrives.” So he sent for David and they brought him in. David was ruddy with bright eyes and handsome features. When Samuel had seen David, the Lord said to him, “Arise, anoint him; for this is the one!” Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward.
Some of you don’t know what you were called to do but the Lord has a specific calling for each one of you. Each mantle is hand crafted by the master Himself.
No one could walk in another person’s calling because it is the Lord who ordains those for ministry. Don’t covet someone else’s mantle. Every talent, calling, gift and ministry has been precisely created for each individual. You have been designed with the exact dimensions that are needed to fit the calling that He has for you. Before the earth was created He knew you and He distinctly formed you and planed every detail of your life.
Saul was King and prophet anointed by Samuel before David. The Lord rejected him because of his disobedience and an evil spirit came upon him. The Lord brought David to Saul to minster to him in worship. Every time David played the harp the anointing would come upon him and the evil spirit would leave him. David was already a worshipper and spent time with the Lord in his fathers farms while attending his sheep. When the Philistines gathered to attack Israel they had a champion fighter named Goliath. He was over 9 feet tall and had bronze armor which weighed almost 125 lbs. He also had a shield-bearer who walked before him carrying a shield. David described to Saul how he had already slayed a lion and a bear so he was well able to assassinate Goliath.
No one dared to try to defeat this giant before. Saul offered David his armor to fight this giant. He gave him his bronze helmet, clothed him with a coat of mail. David fastened his sword to this armor and tried to walk but was not able to. Not only was David a young boy and Saul was a man but that was not what the Lord had for him to use to defeat this giant. We can’t use someone elses armor to fight the enemy. We can’t walk in someone else’s shoes. Don’t allow someone to try to put something on you that you were not called to do. David then took five smooth stones and put them in his shepherd’s bag. I believe that this represents the fivefold ministry and the shepherd’s bag represents Jesus. David slung a stone into Goliaths forehead and killed him.
You were not created to wear another mans armor. Don’t allow the old order to try to clothe you with their armor as Saul tried to put on David. Don’t allow their old ways to try to Covenant with you. The Lord will give you exactly what you need for the ministry that He has called you to and the weapons that you need to fight. You have been armed with the armor that has been created by the master tailor Himself to defeat every giant that rises against you. He may give some of you a stone rather than a javelin which he will use mightily. Do not say that you are not fit for the Master’s use. Although you may be attracted to someone’s ministry Jesus has created you uniquely and wants to use you with your own personality, mannerisms and makeup. The gift that the Lord has for you is befitting to your personal characteristics. Don’t try to be someone that you were not created to be, but be a submissive and yielded vessel and watch what the Lord will do with your life.

“Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel arose and went to Ramah.”
1 Samuel 17: 38 -39
So Saul clothed David with his armor, and he put a bronze helmet on his head; he also clothed him with a coat of mail. David fastened his sword to his armor and tried to walk, for he had not tested them. And David said to Saul, “I cannot walk with these, for I have not tested them.” So David took them off.
