Get Past The Break – A Word by Autumn Dawson
My family and I go to the beach on vacation every year. It’s my happy place. I love watching the waves crash on the shore, I love the beautiful sunshine, I love to play in the sand and the ocean with my kids. I absolutely love being near the ocean.
I decided to take a little float one year so I could get out in the water and enjoy the beautiful ocean. So I put my float in the water and I was hanging out by the shore but I kept getting into this spot where the wave would break. I was only out far enough to be right where the waves would break and come rolling onto the shore. Let me tell you, suddenly the float flipped over, my glasses get knocked from my face, my nose was full of salt water. I really felt like I got body slammed. All because I was hanging out to close to the shore and I kept wiping out where the wave would break.
I had this thought, I need to deeper out here past the break. The break keeps wiping me out. But I was hanging out there at the break because I thought I was safest there. But the truth was, the shallow area of safety was knocking me over!
I didn’t want to go out deeper past the break because my mind was telling me: I didn’t want to get too far out in the water because the waves were too big and strong and I didn’t want to go out into the deeper waters where sharks could be. Those two thoughts kept me up by the shore.
Did you know that waves behave differently in deeper waters than shallow water? In deep water, waves are so subtle that the ocean floor is unaffected by them. But in shallow water, the waves strongly affect the ocean floor. When waves reach shallow waters they increase in height. And did you know that most sharks attack in shallow, knee-deep water?
The two things that I was afraid of were not even true. Fear will keep you on the shore of life but love will set you free so you can get past the break. Some of us keep getting our foundation shaken because you keep hanging out in shallow waters. Where could you go if you abandoned the shore of fear?

If you will launch out a little deeper and say yes to those things God is asking you to do, you’re gonna make it. You may think you are safest close to the shore but the safest place to be is right in the middle of the deep, because God is with you in the deep. I believe in this season God is calling us out into deeper waters. I believe He is challenging His people to get past the break! Get out into the deep and go for all the dreams He has placed inside of you. I believe this is a season where God is calling us to be those who will go for it! Be the one who abandons fear, gets past the break and go for it!
So, I want to challenge you today, what thing is God asking of you that you keep making excuses for? What lies are you believing that will keep you from launching out into the deep? This is your time to get past the break. It’s your time to go deeper! It’s your time to turn the corner of your past. It’s your time to get out of the shallow area and go for it. It’s time for you to take the floaties off and go deeper into the things of God. Get past the break!
