KNOCKING ON THE DOOR

Matthew 7:8, “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. “

In this verse the Lord Jesus lays out a powerful key to receiving answers to prayer and access to the favor of Heaven. He explains prayer and petitioning God may require one or more modalities. The first is to simply ask. This is the easiest and less strenuous level but often does not have enough force of faith to produce a harvest especially when demonic resistance is involved. The next level of petitioning Heaven is to “seek” God. This involves asking but also may involve confessions of faith, a search of Scripture for a Bible verse to stand on in faith, and involves a more intentional posture in prayer.

When asking and seeking does not cause one to gain spiritual ground then a more aggressive approach to “knock’ on Heaven’s proverbial door may be needed. The purpose of a knock is to get the attention of whoever is able to open the door. Knocking may involve fasting, corporate prayer, praying in the Spirit, and/or other more fervent means of prayer.

The Lord gives us a powerful promise to those who adhere to these three methodologies in the following verse 8, “ For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.” This verse should cause us to be elated with the guarantee that Heaven will always respond when we pursue God sincerely. However, there is often another way that God uses.

TAKING THE SHORTCUT

When I was a kid my family lived in a large apartment complex. Often my dad and I would go out together on errands and several times he would leave the key to the house within the apartment. This was never an issue if my mother was home to open the door but when she was at work there were two options to enter the apartment. The first option was to go to the rental office and ask them to send someone over to open the apartment door for us. These were the days before cell phones so we could not simply call and request assistance. This option required that we walk quite a distance to the rental office and wait for them to send someone over to unlock our door. This was a guaranteed but lengthier of the two options.

My dad often chose the second option – an unconventional shortcut. This method of entering the apartment would involve him somehow jumping up several times to unlatch part of the window from the outside. Next, he would have me place my feet within his two cusped hands and he would guide me in how to open the window from the outside. Once the window was open the fun would follow! My dad would hoist me upward and forward through the window. I was younger than 10 years old so I would never get hurt but it was always fun crashing through the blinds and curtains. After landing on the couch I would get up and open the front door to let my father into the house.

Recently, while in prayer God reminded me of these moments which made me chuckle but he used his memory as an analogy for a spiritual principle found in Scripture.

WHEN THE WINDOWS ARE OPEN

The door may be locked but remember God has windows too. God not only promised to open the locked door but also to open closed windows. The problem with knocking on a door is firstly one doesn’t know how hard they have to knock to get the attention of the person on the other side of the door. Secondly, one does not know how long they have to knock (pray) before the knocks are answered. However, with an open window from God you can just move through it with a little faith like I jumped inside of our apartment window when the door was locked. Let’s examine some scriptures.

God will tell you what to do to have a window open in your life.

In Malachi 3, God chastises the children of Israel for not prioritizing the things of God in their heart and life. He specifically rebukes them for not tithing as instructed. God as a good Father promises that if they would repent and show their gratitude to him and dependency upon him through tithing that he would open the windows of Heaven over the nation. Please note that the response from Heaven here does not necessitate prayer but an act of obedience to the voice of God. He did not tell them to give and then seek, ask, and knock in prayer but a simple promise IF you do this then I will do this on your behalf  – I will open the windows of Heaven.

God will let you know when a window is open in your life.

During the days of Elisha there was a great famine in the land of Samara because the King of Samaria had besieged the city. The famine was so severe that one mother resulted in boiling her child and eating him as a meal (2 Kings 6:29) How terrible! However, the Prophet Elisha prophesied a divine turn-around that would take place within the city’s economy within -24 hours. God had him to declare the divine timing of an open window over the city for supernatural turnaround and breakthrough.

2 Kings 7:18, “And it came to pass as the man of God had spoken to the king, saying, Two measures of barley for a shekel, and a measure of fine flour for a shekel, SHALL BE TOMORROW about this time in the gate of Samaria.

Last year as I was ministering online God stopped me in the midst of speaking and instructed me to declare to the people a window of supernatural giving was open but they must give “NOW”. As people begin to give many felt the presence of the Lord or some level of Holy Spirit manifestation. Something more unusual happened. Some reported were INSTANTLY HEALED of physical conditions as they hit the button on their phone to give!  I never had a chance to pray for their healing or war on their behalf; they simply stepped into a divine window through an act of obedience. God declared the window was open and they took advantage.

God will let you know when a window is open in your life and for what purpose. This revelation may come by a vision, dream, voice of the Holy Spirit, or prophetic word. Watch and pray for these divine openings to take place on your behalf!

Don’t Allow Doubt to Close The Window

Sadly in this account we discover through the life of a city official who chose NOT to believe the word of the Lord and not to partner his faith with the divine open windows of heaven.

2 Kings 7:19, “And that lord answered the man of God, and said, Now, behold, if the Lord should make WINDOWS IN HEAVEN, might such a thing be?”

As one reads further it is discovered that this same man misses out on the open window of heaven, doesn’t partake of the city-wide financial blessing, and also is killed as he is trampled at the gate by others. All of this happened the next day as the man of God prophesied to him in response to his doubt and unbelief. There was no requirement that he pray for the breakthrough but only believe but he missed his moment of divine opportunity  2 Kings 7:19, “…And he said, Behold, thou shalt see it with thine eyes, but shalt not eat thereof.”

Partner with the Window by Faith

While fishing the disciples decided to believe the word of Jesus to cast out their nets although they had fished all night and caught nothing. They had toiled. Let’s relate this to asking, seeking, and knocking. A window for supernatural provision opened for the fisherman in Luke 5:4, “he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught.” In this account it did not say that they asked the Lord for help, a miracle, or to pray to God the Father on their behalf. It only says Simon Peter decided to partner with the Word of God.

Luke 5:6, “And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake.”

Supernatural Breakthrough!

PRAYER

Dear Heavenly Father we thank you that you are a God that sees and hears from Heaven. We thank you that always you hear our prayer in Jesus Name. Father we pray that you would open windows of Heaven and portals in and around our life that prayers would be accelerated and that demonic resistance would be easily overcome. Father we repent for any past disobedience or negligence that caused us to miss out on prior supernatural opportunities. We ask that your Holy Spirit help us to discern and know the timing and purpose of all windows opened in the Heavens in the future. We thank you Father for a divine harvest and answered prayers in abundance.
