“God, the Master of the Breakthrough” – A Word by Peggy Williams

2 Samuel 5:17-20 (AMP) When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over Israel, all the Philistines went up to look for him, but he heard about it and went down to the stronghold. 18 Now the Philistines had come and spread out [for battle] in the Valley of Rephaim. 19 David inquired of the Lord, saying, “Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will You hand them over to me?” And the Lord said to David, “Go up, for I will certainly hand them over to you.” 20 So David came to Baal-perazim, and he defeated them there, and said, “The Lord has broken through my enemies before me, like a breakthrough of water.” So he named that place Baal-perazim (master of breakthroughs).
There are some keys in this scripture for us. King David had been recognized as King by all the tribes of Israel. After you experience a significant breakthrough, the enemy will always come against you. What did David do? First, he actually went down to the stronghold of the enemy camp, but before he took any action He inquired of the Lord and asked Him what to do. I think he went to the stronghold first in order to be ready to fight on the Lord’s signal. Often times when you are experiencing a large breakthrough or you’re about to, the enemy will come against you. He’ll use those that are the most valuable to you, those relationships, those things that you have an investment in, to try to get you down. Just recognize what the enemy is doing and be ready to fight with your spiritual weapons. The enemy knows that you are about to receive a large breakthrough or you’ve already gotten one, but you know the Master of the Breakthrough. Stay the course. Stay in the breakthrough and decree and declare the things of the Lord. Don’t focus on what the enemy is doing, but instead focus on what God is saying and doing. Give Him the glory in the midst of this because the Lord says that when we praise Him, He inhabits our praises. Those spirits coming against you cannot stand in the wake of your praise!
