Linda Evans Shepherd : The Most Powerful Secret to Blessings
A couple of years ago I got an email from a woman named Sara who said, “I live in a nursing home and have no purpose. My car won’t run and my TV is broke. My life is terrible and I’m absolutely miserable. God has blessed everyone but me. Surely you would agree that I should kill myself.”
“I think there’s great hope for you,” I told her, “and I can prove it.”
“Write me back next week with a list of five blessings God has put in your life.”
A week later, Sara confided, “I could only think of four, and one was that I was blessed that you would even talk to me.”
“Then we are going to have to stretch your blessing-perspective, I’d like for you to watch for the blessing God has hidden in your life every week.”
It was hard at first, but after a while Sara began to notice that there were blessings hiding in her life. She soon reported, “I made five dollars from redeeming my neighbor’s beer cans. It’s the first time I’ve had money in ages so I walked down to the corner store and got me a soda pop.”
But later, when Sara shared her faith with these same neighbors and they received Jesus as their Savior, Sara complained, “Since those neighbors came to faith and got set free from their drinking problem, I’ve lost my weekly beer-can money. Do you think God will still provide for me?”
And in fact, it wasn’t long before a local pastor took an interest in Sara and begin to have a parishioner not only take her to church, but take her out to Sunday lunch.
But still Sara wasn’t content with her life. “I just don’t understand it. I prayed for a woman who works at the nursing home and God healed her back.”

“That’s wonderful!” I said.
“Well, if it’s so wonderful then why doesn’t God answer more of my prayers?”
“He’s giving you one breakthrough after another!” I assured her.
“Well, I think it’s amazing that the people from your church fixed your car!”
“I guess you’re right, and now that I have my car back maybe I can drive myself to do some volunteer work.”
Sara decided to help at a local food pantry, finding a purpose for the first time in years. Then Sara got a really big blessing; she received a forgotten pension.
Sara was beside herself with joy, eagerly planning to use at least part of the funds to tithe to her church, buy a new TV and also to do good deeds for others. She was especially excited about buying a friend a much-needed pair of eyeglasses!
So how had Sara been able to change her perspective from hopelessness to purpose, joy and miracles? She learned to trust God by recognizing and counting His blessings.
This season is the perfect time to count the blessings God has given you. For when you count your blessings, you will improve your ability to trust the Lord. And those who trust the Lord are awarded with ever-abundant blessings as Jeremiah explained:
“But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord,
whose confidence is in him.
They will be like a tree planted by the water
that sends out its roots by the stream.
It does not fear when heat comes;
its leaves are always green.
It has no worries in a year of drought
and never fails to bear fruit” Jeremiah 17:7-8 (NIV.)
The fruit of counting your blessings causes you to develop a deeper trust in God. A deeper trust in God causes you to develop a root system that taps into His living water. No matter the drought, you will not only have joy; you will have the faith to stretch out your arms as you reach out to Him. Your trust in God will become a shade and comfort to those around you. You will not only be blessed, you will be a blessing.
A TURNAROUND FOR YOU..
A word by Dana Jarvis
I decree you are making the spiritual journey from the bondage of Egypt into your promised land of destiny. I know you have grown weary. Do not let the murmurings and complaining attitudes rule you. It causes the faith to waiver! Your focus is upon the cup of bitter waters that you are currently drinking from.
Rest assured that your God is making these bitter waters sweet!
You shall taste and see that the Lord is good! You are going to see such extravagance in your daily life. He is delivering much into your hands so reach up and take hold. Just as he was with you before, he is with you now. You are going to drink deep of the Living Waters. The bitter waters of life have tried to steal all joy.
However I hear the Lord say, “It is done, I am the Lord who heals you. I am the Lord who will restore you. I am the Lord who will provide your every need. I am the One that is making the bitter waters sweet!”
I feel so strongly that God is removing your cup of bitter waters you have had to drink for so long. He is causing a turnaround for you in a situation that you desperately need him to move. I am speaking to several and know this word is for you. Even as the Lord led Moses and the children of Israel from their bondage at the Red Sea, it still took one step of faith. One step of faith is all it takes to cause a release from all of this. Take a moment and sow into good ground by giving into Spirit Fuel. For just a contribution of $25, $50, or even $100 or more given into Spirit Fuel is an active step and good ground on which to sow. It is a powerful ministry reaching the world for Christ. As you sow that offering, it is that act of faith that will cause the Red Sea where you are standing to part in your life. The bitter cup will be removed and the sweetness of the Lord shall begin to flow!
