Love Isn’t the Missing Ingredient
Is God’s love His primary attribute and the most important character quality to demonstrate as Christians today? Or, is there is another attribute that is even more central in His ability to come and move in power in our day…
Just before I wake up, I’m seeing “Him” struggle in getting to the other side of a great chasm. He has come from seeing “Her” and is deeply distressed because of His love for Her. Though He desperately wanted to stay, He couldn’t. Not yet. He longs for the time when He can be with Her, but She is not ready. His very essence is too powerful for Her. His nature would overwhelm Her. His heart aches for Her… but the atmosphere must change…
This was a dream I had two weeks ago. God is showing His heart for us even as the praying Church is seeking spiritual awakening and revival. God’s love for us should never be in question. He proved that love over 2000 years ago when He came as a man to die on the cross for our sin. The great chasm that had been created by our sin was dealt with through His death and resurrection. Therefore, it is not any lack of love that keeps us apart. Nor is it any lack of love for one another that is keeping Him from coming in another mighty move of His Spirit to this nation.
The prohibiting factor from Jesus coming and dwelling on the earth in fullness and power is a lack of HOLINESS in the Church.
By wrongly placing LOVE above holiness, the Church has allowed compromise and counterfeit doctrines into the body of Christ. Holiness is not an outgrowth of love – rather it is love that is always subject to God’s holiness. There is no perfect love apart from the Perfect One. Without a revelation of God’s purity, perfection and wholeness, one can never truly know His love. He never said to “…be love, for I am love…” He said to “…be holy, for I am holy.” (Leviticus 11:44) In the heavens where all creation continually worships the One True God, they are not worshipping and adoring His love, but His holiness.
And the four living creatures, each of them with six wings, are full of eyes all around and within, and day and night they never cease to say, “Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come!” (Revelation 4:8)
It is not God’s love that sets Him apart. It is His holiness. In like manner, though we should be known by our love, it is our holiness unto Him that grants us the power to overcome and defeat every foe and be a true demonstration of His GLORY. There is no glory apart from God’s holiness. Those who idolize “loving others” above living a righteous life will eventually find themselves lost, empty and powerless to change anything or anyone. “Without holiness no one will see the Lord.” (Hebrews 12:14)

Jesus didn’t come to just FORGIVE sin, but to DEAL WITH IT. Christianity is not primarily about being justified, but about being holy. To preach love without holiness is like trying to dress up a dying corpse. The mantra of “What Would Jesus Do” has wrongly obligated Christians to unconditional acceptance of anything and anyone. However, those who focus solely on Jesus’ mercy and compassion, forget the Jesus who turned over tables in the Temple (Matt. 21:12), rebuked the Pharisees (Church) for being hypocrites (Luke 13:15) and called his best friend “Satan”(Mark 8:33). We cannot attempt to redefine who Jesus is in order to appease those who are simply looking for free passes to nowhere.
Our present cultural crisis and spiritual depravity has created a climate where God’s holiness has become a stench. And though God could certainly choose to stay with us out of His great love, it is we who are unable to stand or live in the power of His presence, for He is first and foremost Holy. It is only when we begin to pursue Him as a Holy God, not just a Loving God that we can become vessels able to contain Perfect Love. He longs to come and show Himself strong and mighty. His heart has never been more passionate towards us. We are the ones who need to prepare ourselves to receive Him.
I will show the holiness of my great name, which has been profaned among the nations, the name you have profaned among them. Then the nations will know that I am the LORD, declares the Sovereign LORD, when I show myself holy through you before their eyes. (Ezekiel 36:23)
