Over Twenty Years—A Prophecy Now Fulfilled by Andy Sanders
WHACK! The prophet stood before the woman and forcefully hit her crippled legs hard with the Bible he held. Gasps shrieked through the sanctuary as the once-crippled lady leapt to her feet and began to walk around for the first time in years, leaving her wheelchair behind. God had supernaturally set this crippled woman free right in front of many skeptical eyes, and it was this single event that began entwining freedom with divine destiny upon my heavily battered bloodline.
So what is the connection between a prophet hitting a lady across her knees with a Bible and my salvation? Simple: curiosity. God used my father’s curiosity to cause him to check out a traveling speaker (prophet) who moved in signs and wonders. God created this scenario to make sure that both of his kids would be born again before he passed away over twenty years later. The supernatural ability for God to restore moves beyond our inability to fully understand.
“Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful” (Hebrews 10:23 NIV).
Sometime later, the same prophet paced back and forth before those at the altar. Then he stopped and stood in front of my father looking at him intently. This man didn’t know anything about my dad or my life, and he had no connection to our family at all. The older prophet said to him, “I see a wall in front of you—an unscalable brick wall that is before you. I see two sons, together with you. (Keep in mind this prophet had just arrived in the area and he didn’t know any of us.) You will climb this wall, and I then see you looking down at your two sons. The younger will climb the wall next, and you will be standing on this wall with your youngest son. Then you will look down and see your older son, and he won’t know how to climb yet, but you will reach down with your hands and help pull him up. So you and both of your sons will be standing on this wall together before you die.”
It was this single prophecy from a man whom I can’t even find now that set the stage for every major event thereafter that God has done in my family. Shortly after this prophecy I had a divine encounter with God while on a drug overdose three weeks before my high school graduation. Within a short time after that I wound up in jail, being caught with alcohol under age. While in that cell all alone on a Friday night, I heard these exact words, “Andy, now don’t you think it’s time to follow Me?” I decided to follow the Lord in that cold, lonely metal cell that day. Within a week I gave my heart to the Lord publically at a youth meeting at church.
“Overhearing what they said, Jesus told him, ‘Don’t be afraid; just believe’” (Mark 5:36 NIV).
Holding on to the Promise
For the next twenty years—and sometimes like a broken record—my father would tell me (and everyone else who came into contact with him, for that matter) about the prophecy from the prophet about both of his boys getting saved before he died. He held on to this word from God, this promise, unlike most I have ever seen in my life. He prayed, found Scriptures that lined up with it, and talked about it every chance that he got. At the time, I didn’t understand the power of holding on to a promise like I do now. Looking back, from the time I became born again until about two years before my father passed away, it wasn’t looking like that promise would be totally fulfilled. My brother had gone the wrong direction. And fast. I believe that if the grace and mercy of God wasn’t on his life for one moment he would have been gone quick. (But this is like us all, in reality. Without His grace and others’ prayers, where would we be?) My brother got involved with the worst pit of sin on this earth, and I will assure you that it tried and tested that prophetic word for over twenty years. Satan tried daily—like a slap in the face—to use the current circumstances to overwrite the reality of one day seeing the promise fulfilled. It was such a spiritual challenge for my father as he held on to that promise for my brother’s salvation all those years. But through it all, my dad stood true and refused to waiver.
“They will have no fear of bad news; their hearts are steadfast, trusting in the Lord” (Psalms 112:7 NIV).
Are you being tested right now because a promise God gave you appears to be going the exact opposite from what you were told? Are you at your wit’s end with it, wanting to give up? Believe me, I doubted more than once, and I am sure that my dad wanted to; but he never stopped believing for the salvation of his oldest son, who at the time even called himself the “black sheep” of the family.
Salvation Is Here
Then one day, two years before my father passed away, I got a call from my brother telling me that he gave his heart to the Lord! When he told me the circumstances surrounding his salvation my initial thought was, Only God. Wow! Only God could do something this bizarre! But He did it. Not only did the Lord fulfill that promise, He will keep His word again and again and again, and He will keep His promise to you too—and sometimes in the craziest way! Why? God is the God of the bizarre. He deliberately sets the stage to fulfill His promises in our lives in ways that blow the deepest understanding of our intellect. If it appears that God’s word to you is being fulfilled in a normal fashion and in a way that can be easily figured out, then it probably isn’t completed yet. If it is normal, it is boring—and I assure you that God isn’t boring. He does the craziest miracles just to rattle religious barriers out of our heads and hearts. Just like a twenty-year-old prophecy being fulfilled in a moment’s time in one of the oddest ways. That is how God works.
The Joy of Fulfillment
I will never forget my father’s emotion-packed words as he testified in his church. With tears streaming down his face and a wide smile he stated, “I’m ready to go home. I can go home to be with the Lord now!” Why did he have so much emotion and joy? His oldest son had just given his heart to God.
Within two years from the day he gave that testimony, my father went home to be with the Lord. He passed on with peace in his heart, seeing a promise fulfilled now that both of his kids were born again. Not only was I born again, but I have been in ministry for most of the time since then. After my brother accepted Christ, he started serving faithfully in his home church. God promises, restores, and heals.
“Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain” (1 Corinthians 15:58 NIV).
The Power of Speaking, Believing, and Holding on to the Promise of God
Here are two things you can do that will radically change the outcome of your faith walk with God. There are many promises hovering over people’s lives. It is time to walk into them, receive them, and move with full confidence, knowing that nothing of our efforts made it happen—it was all Him and.
Cultivate the Promises of God in Your Life
If God tells you to build a boat, don’t wait for someone else to help. Do like Noah did and start planning. What God gave you is your baby to birth, not someone else’s responsibility.

Through the most troubling situations that my father went through while believing for the final part of that prophetic word (my brother’s salvation), he held true. That one single part was tested—practically daily—for over twenty years. When the situations surrounding that one promise seemed to worsen, it would just spiral further out of control. But the Lord held true and so did my father.
“These are the words of him who is holy and true, who holds the key of David. What he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open” (Revelation 3:7 NIV).
God’s words to you remain true, never fade, and always ignite with hope that never ends. Hold on to the word you were given with all of your heart; don’t ever let it go!
Increase In Jesus Name! A Word by Thomas Griffin
Enter into increase in Jesus name! I pray as you read this testimony you are set free into all the Lord has for you and your loved ones!
I robbed myself. I scoffed every time I turned on Christian television. I just knew some how it would be about taking up an offering. So I would turn the Christian TV on and tell everyone in the room “wait for it….wait for it…wait for it….” and BAM! There it would be. Send $444.44 for your blessing. Ridiculous, just ridiculous.
Because I personally know many ministers who end their services like this, I knew it wasn’t out of greed as of most supposed but out of what I felt was conscious or subconscious manipulating principles they had LEARNED from other more greedy people who didn’t have the right ambitions or intentions.
I became cynical towards any prosperity message no matter how rich the message was(pun intended). It wasn’t until this last year that I sat on my dad’s couch watching yet another “send in your love gift” promise program, that I realized all the characteristics of a poverty minded person that they spoke of perfectly aligned with my current place in life. I was living in less than 1000 sqft. crammed with 5 children and my wife, living off food stamps, working harder and harder with very little to show for it. Seemed like something ALWAYS arose and took any income we gained. Pockets with holes. I almost felt cursed financially.
Now, I can’t say the message I was hearing on the tv that day delivered me, but it opened my eyes that something was majorly wrong. I DID have a poverty mentality and had quit giving unto the Lord. The poverty mentality is horde all you get because you might have little(yet again), or not have anything at all for tomorrow. When we quit giving, we quit seeing favor and blessing. Period. I didn’t realize we had quit all together. It was a slow fade. I thought we had just “scaled back” a little on our tithes but the truth was, we had quit altogether. The more we scaled back in giving, somehow the less we had to give so it often came down to ultimatums. Give or have gas in the car. Give or have electricity in our home.
AND THAT IS WHERE SATAN WANTS YOU AND I. He wants you bound by having to choose worldly provisions over heavenly provision. It’s the same thing as what happened in the garden. His lie is that God is not enough, that you need something you do not current have in Him(as if all things weren’t in God already). He loves to see Israel once again choose mans way over God. Man’s government over God’s. Man’s way of peace of mind (holding on to stacks of money in the bank) over God’s which is truth He who is ALL IN ALL and supplies all of our needs.
It was time to break free! I started sowing. You should remember back when I spoke about it in my emails if you’ve been connected with us. We were delivered. It was hard to give at first, but once we realized that He was working all things together for our good financially, it became a joy to give again. Mini harvest after mini harvest we were back in our right minds about giving. The mind of Christ.
All it took was a step of faith in Our Father to be the provider He has promised us. We emptied our bank account…a few times in fact. We sowed sacrificially as unto the Lord and since then have entered a 2000+ soft home, had increase in our business, increase in ministry opportunities and more. He is faithful and I boast in Him!
Let God be God in your finances. Don’t you feel that deep deep drawing right now that it’s time to make a change. If nothing changes, nothing changes. I want to encourage you to sow a seed right in the grace of this moment for financial breakthrough. Don’t be cynical like I was and rob you and your loved ones from total financial peace like my family has. Surrender to the government of God and step out in faith. Do it now, no matter what the circumstance looks like.
Satan’s goal is to keep you distracted by the circumstance so much that you say “I’ll do it later, or I just can’t.” – Sow SOMETHING and name it breakthrough.
Release His hands into your finances. Sow a seed in this moment of grace for breakthrough. If you’d like to sow into Spirit Fuel, I promise you we are good soil. Step into breakthrough and choose Our Father as your provider and provision. Sow a seed of $45 right now or any amount you feel led to give. By sowing a seed today into Spirit Fuel, you will be helping us reach more people on the internet for the Kingdom of God. Some of you the Lord may be speaking to you to give a larger seed of $100 or more.
