Prophetic Word for the Church in 2017 – A Word by Freda Thomas

On Nov. 11, 2016, I woke up with God saying to me, “The prophetic word for the church for 2017 is, the season of grace has ended, the season of divine strategy has come.” I quickly got up and spent some time with the Lord to understand what God was saying.

First let me tell you what He is not saying! He is not saying that all grace has ended but was speaking about the seasons that each of us as believers go through. From talking to other mature believers and from the patterns that I see in my own life, I have noticed that we tend to go through seasons of tremendous growth (divine, strategic movement) to seasons of filling out (grace) to seasons of growth again (and the pattern continues). Just like teenagers will often shoot upward, be gangly and even uncoordinated and then fill out and mature, we as believers will notice that God tends to grow us and then give us grace to fill out.

I hear the Lord saying that we as the body of Christ have been in a season of grace. A season of filling out in our identities in Christ, a relearning of all that Jesus paid for and a sense of divine freedom. Now, the season is shifting towards divine strategy, strategy that will propel the church into taking new territory for the Lord.

Many believers have felt like Elijah as he watched the brook of Cherith dry up (I Kings 17:1-7). The grace for situations, relationships or ministry has been feeling dry, or even rubbing in the wrong direction. This can be very discouraging and disheartening but God is not saying for you to be down on yourself or to give up but to recognize the season has changed!

In a season of grace, there is nothing for you to do but receive, just like Elijah was fed by the ravens and provided for by the brook. But in this new season, (I Kings 17:8 &9) God is giving you a divine strategy. You will have to move or do something new!

From Jan. 8th to the 29th our church, Harvest will be doing a 21 day fast. This past Sunday, I felt to encourage our congregation to get ready for the new season by praying about these 4 things.

In this new season of Divine Strategy, you will have to….

1. Get out of your comfort zone. In Luke 15:4, the shepherd had to leave the 99 to seek after the one. Often as believers we will minimize the one disappointing area of our lives. In this new season, God is calling us to ask Him for a divine strategy to retrieve the one. It will take us getting out of our comfort zone and going on an adventure because God deeply cares about the one.

2. Search for God’s will. In Luke 15:8, the woman lights a lamp and sweeps the whole house. Now in a season of grace, we simply ask the Lord to give us back things that have been lost but, in this new season, we must search out God’s will and strategy to reclaim what has been lost. God’s promise is that if we seek, we will find.

3. Let go of your plans and watch for the new plan. The father in Luke 15:11-13 & 20, had to let the plan for his future go (the prodigal son) not knowing how the future would turn out. Yet that father did not just give the future up for lost. No! He actively watched for how the Lord was going to return it to him. Too often we hold onto our plans, when God wants to give us a new strategic plan.

4. Cut your losses. In the parable of the unjust steward, Luke 16:1-8, Jesus commends the steward for being shrewd. Why? Because the steward knew how to make the most out of a losing situation. Sometimes as believers we are unwilling to cut our losses even when God is asking us to move forward. Maybe we feel like we didn’t do our best, or that we have even sinned and because of that, we guilt ourselves into continuing in a situation that God wants to free us from. To cut your losses isn’t an easy thing, nor something that should be done without wise counsel but I believe that this word is specifically for some people who have stayed in situations too long.

For this new year, take heart! God is saying that we are in a season where He longs to answer our questions, He wants to pour out wisdom and where He is giving us divine strategies to take the land for Christ.
