The Courage of Caleb is Beginning to Rise!
A Word by Sylvia Pittman Neusch

I have felt a distinct shift in the Spirit realm the last few weeks. Something new is beginning to take place and God is stirring the hearts of His people to go with Him into a place of unprecedented courage.
Many have felt surrounded and overwhelmed by fear in the past few months as the enemy has unleashed his intimidating and ominous tactics. But, God is calling His people to rise up and refuse the lies and agreements that continue to empower Him to harass the people of God and those around us.

A line has been drawn in the sand, and God is inviting us to step into our destined and rightful inheritance as His sons and daughters. The kingdom of God is a NO FEAR ZONE!

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”  2 Timothy 1:7

If we are living controlled by fear then we are living below the standard and place that God has ordained for us, His people. God has called us to be a people who walk by faith. We know that “Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God” (Rom. 10:17) This verse speaks of our initial faith in Christ as we hear the message of salvation. But, it also speaks of our ongoing journey of faith. Our faith has to stand on something. Our faith must rest in something certain. That certain and sure foundation is the words that come from the mouth of God. Our faith is in Him!

Satan tempted Jesus in the wilderness to turn the stones into bread. Jesus’ response to him models for us how we are to walk and respond to him as well. Jesus said in Matt. 4:4, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'”  Jesus is telling us that God’s words are to be our lifeline. Knowing what God is saying and living by that is just as important as eating is to our physical body.

THE COURAGE OF CALEB

We are stepping into a new place of courage like that of Caleb in Numbers 13. Caleb, Joshua, and a group of explorers went in to scout out Canaan, or their promised land. They did this because the Lord spoke specifically to Moses to do so.

“The Lord said to Moses, “Send some men to explore the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the Israelites. From each ancestral tribe send one of its leaders.”  Numbers 13:1-2

The Israelites had heard repeatedly that God was giving them the land of Canaan, or promised land, but He was speaking this once again to them. This was the “word of the Lord” for them and they each would have known about the promises of God for them. However, only Joshua and Caleb responded in faith after their journey into the land. As the group of scouts show the fruit of the land after their journey, you can literally hear the fear talking as the scouts share their report.

“They gave Moses this account: “We went into the land to which you sent us, and it does flow with milk and honey! Here is its fruit. But the people who live there are powerful, and the cities are fortified and very large. We even saw descendants of Anak there. The Amalekites live in the Negev; the Hittites, Jebusites and Amorites live in the hill country; and the Canaanites live near the sea and along the Jordan.” Num. 13:27-29

“…We seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes, and we looked the same to them”. Num. 13:33b

In contrast, Caleb’s famous response was recorded for us in Num. 13:30, and reveals something totally different. Caleb was seeing the land through EYES OF FAITH . Caleb and Joshua chose to remember what God had already spoken and their faith was resting in that promise. They saw the same enemies and giants that the others saw, but they knew that the word of God to them would trump every enemy in their path.

“Then Caleb silenced the people before Moses and said “We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it.” Num. 13:30

I believe that God is releasing a grace in this hour to respond with faith and courage like that of Caleb in the face of the enemy’s attacks.I keep seeing a line drawn in the sand and people choosing whether they will step over the line into the unknown with faith or shrink back in fear and unbelief. “For we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who believe and are saved.” Hebrews 10:38-39  FEAR looks like SHRINKING BACK and FAITH looks like BELIEVING GOD.

God is inviting His people to take Him at His word, believe His promises, and choose this adventure of faith with Him. We are not on this journey alone and He has promised to always be with us. As we choose to believe and trust Him and His words to us, like Caleb, we will be those who wholeheartedly follow our God into our own promised land and destiny.

“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.” Isaiah 43:1b-2
