Our God is a covenant-keeping God! He keeps His promises from generation to generation. He wants you to be faithful to Him and keep your covenants or contracts too.

On Monday, May 30th, at sundown starts the very special Hebrew month of Sivan. This is the month when the Lord came upon Mount Sinai and gave the Ten Commandments. It’s an important time to understand that the Word of God is representative of who God is and His heart for us, His treasured people.

On Mount Sinai, the Lord shared His flawless character of who He is. He is a God of justice, righteousness and love. He longs for you to follow after the covenant commandments He gave way back then.

Exodus 19:3-6 says, “Then Moses climbed the mountain to appear before God. The Lord called to him from the mountain and said, ‘Give these instructions to the family of Jacob; announce it to the descendants of Israel: You have seen what I did to the Egyptians. You know how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to Myself. Now if you will obey Me and keep My covenant, you will be My own special treasure from among all the peoples on earth; for all the earth belongs to Me. And you will be My kingdom of priests, My holy nation.’ This is the message you must give to the people of Israel.”

God has not changed. He gave us His Word. He gave us, “The Word”, which is Jesus Christ Himself, who walked the earth. God keeps His covenants! As we are His children we are to keep covenants and contracts too.

What is a covenant? It is  a binding agreement that God makes with His people by Word and also ratified by blood. Hebrews 13:20-21 (KJV) reads, “ Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is well pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.”

When you know the Word, you know more of who God is and how faithful He is. We should model this faithfulness that God has toward us, in our lives with others. How can we do that? By keeping His commandments. He often speaks to us in Scripture about how our joy will be complete as we keep His commandments.  John 15:10-11 (KJV) reads, “If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love. These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.” To be complete and full in our joy we  must learn to keep God’s commandments that share His heart  for us.

These commandments when kept bring us joy. Because Jesus kept the whole law we freely offer ourselves now to do as God requests and keep His commandments. The commandments of God are given to us so that we might live and choose life.

Exodus 20: 1-17 (KJV) reveals God’s heart to the people as He gives the Ten Commandments on Mt. Sinai to the Jewish people. This was God’s way of saying, and I paraphrase,  “I love you and I am calling you unto myself and you need to know who I am and what I expect from our relationship. My expectations are  in these commandments. ” I encourage you to read that passage.

The saddest thing is what happens next in scripture, during this very month of Sivan.  In Exodus 20:18-20 (KJV) the word says, “And all the people saw the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the noise of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking: and when the people saw it, they removed, and stood afar off. And they said unto Moses, ‘Speak thou with us, and we will hear: but let not God speak with us, lest we die’. And Moses said unto the people, ‘Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before your faces, that ye sin not.’”  God wanted relationship with them but they could only see their sin and they missed His heart.

That word “prove” is the Hebrew word “nasah” which means to test, to attempt, to  adventure, to try. God is calling them into a new life with Him through the Torah or word of God.

When we keep the word of  God we are showing the world that God is our King and that we are putting Him first. The word of God is not burdensome when we remember that it brings life and calls us out as a covenant people who are His treasured possession as He says in Exodus 19:5-6 (KJV), “Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine: And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.”

God is calling us to rise above and be who we are in relationship with Him. When we keep His word we are keeping covenant. Jesus through His blood sacrifice made a way for that relationship with the Father and because of that the commandments are not burdensome, but life. We are set apart and consecrated to follow what God says.

The fact is the world sees you and me as children of the King when we keep covenant with God. They see a pure faith and commitment to being all God called us to be.

I want you to know you are loved. You are His treasure, part of a holy nation, and a kingdom of priests unto the Lord. Now is the time for you to press in to knowing Him in His word.

God provided for the Israelites quail, manna and water in the desert. He supplied their every need and gave of Himself in so many ways. And He’s committed to doing the same thing for you.

Now prophetically what  does all this mean  for us  in the month of Sivan in 2022?   God is speaking that just as the Israelites received the Ten Commandments and were proved, tried or tested in keeping them. You will be tested in keeping your contracts or your binding agreements. If you are under a specific binding agreement, now is the time to determine to keep your contract and walk in righteousness. I understand that some contracts cannot continue because seasons have changed and you are transitioning. If this is the case, pray and ask the Lord for the wisdom to renegotiate or even release you from the contract. Even this is a test,  to just be righteous enough to the end contract correctly.  Go talk with those you are bound to in contract. Do not be afraid. It is time to raise your faith level and trust God even for keeping, ending or renegotiation of a contract agreement.

See, the enemy gets a foothold and develops a stronghold when we aren’t doing what we should be doing or fulling our contracts. When we simply abandon contracts without proper closure this opens enemy portals. What happens is our disobedience or fear will open a door that lets demonic forces come in and affect our sleep and cause more guilt, fear, anxiety and depression. You do NOT want any open doors for the enemy in your life. Close them! If you need to move on from some contracts, then move on! If you need to renegotiate your commitment to a contract, have faith that God will help you step into your destiny through a renegotiation and give you favor with the others in the contract. The battle belongs to the Lord! God is calling us to be set apart as a holy nation and our, “Yes be Yes and our No be No.” (Matthew 5:37) God will bless you beyond measure when you keep His commandments and when you keep your contracts.

You are called to be faithful unto God. Pray this with me, “Lord, please help me keep your commandments as an act of love to you. I am your child and I represent  you in the world today. I want to rest in the blessings  of obedience and I choose life. I choose Jesus and I choose to keep your commandments and  to  be faithful to you. Lord, please help me with the earthly contracts that I am bound  too and help me to know how to fulfill them, renegotiate them, or end them in this month of Sivan. I love you Lord and I know you love me and will carry me through this. You want me to be faithful and I am learning this more everyday because of your faithfulness to me.”  Share this will a friend who needs to be encouraged to keep moving forward. God is advancing your destiny and your word means  so much to that process!
