There Is Always A Hedging – A Word by Peggy Morris

In John 15:15, Jesus tells His disciples, “But I call you my most intimate friends, for I reveal to you everything that I’ve heard from My Father.”

He began to tell them of the things to come. They did not understand at the time, but Jesus knew that they would have understanding later on, as we so often have hindsight. He knew that what they were about to experience would cause confusion, fear, and disbelief.

He not only told them what was going to happen to Him on the cross, but also that they would be excommunicated from the synagogues, persecuted and eventually put to death. And their response? Jesus said to them, “Sorrow has filed your hearts (and taken complete possession of them.)”  John 16:6

Why did Jesus tell His disciples these things?

When you are truly seeking the Lord, there will always be a hedging. “You have hedged me behind and before and laid Your hand upon me.” Psalm. 139:5 The Passion Translation says it this way, “You’ve gone into my future to prepare the way”

God gives u this promise from Jeremiah 29:12-14, “When you call on Me, when you come and pray to Me, I’ll listen. When you come looking for Me, you’ll find Me. Yes, when you get serious about finding Me and want it more than anything else, I’ll make sure you won’t be disappointed.” For, “There is a private place reserved for the lovers of God, where they sit near Him and receive the revelation-secrets of His promises.”

Psalm. 25:14

When we come to the place where we want HIM more than anything else, His promise is, that as we seek Him, we will surely find Him. And then something amazing happens; He begins to speak, trusting His heart to those who love and seek Him. Every tender lover finds friendship with God and will hear His intimate secrets. Proverbs. 3:32

Several years ago someone prayed over me and told me “God trusts you; you have stewarded everything He had given you well, and He trusts you.”

Those words spoke so deeply to my heart and I have treasured and pondered them continuously. This was by far the most impacting and precious word I have ever received, but it wasn’t until recently that they really manifested in my heart.

Like so many others, the Lord spoke things to me that told about shakings and uncertain times, but I saw His plan and His heart, even in all the chaos. But fear, sorrow and doubt tried to overtake me. It was not looking like I thought it would (or should).

But then He reminded me of the precious word that I had received. I realized that more than anything I wanted HIM to trust me! I wanted Him to trust His heart to me, knowing that I would treasure His words and steward them well, meaning that I would believe Him and stand in faith, matching His Word with my faith. “We have the same Spirit of faith that is described in the Scriptures when it say, “First I believed, then I spoke in faith.” 2 Corinthians. 4:13

I repented of doubt and fear and purposed in that moment that no matter what I saw in the natural that I would stand on the promises He gave me.

So, why did Jesus tell His disciple of the things to come? Because He was hedging them! He was going into their future to prepare the way for them.

“I’ve told you this ahead of time, before it happens, so that when it does happen, the confirmation will deepen your belief in Me.” John 14:29 and “I have told you this so that you would not surrender to confusion or doubt.” John 16:1

He also wanted them to hold onto the victory that was coming! That in a little while they would see Him again and everything that they had ever known would change, nothing would ever be the same again, for He was about “to make things right!” That “when the earth goes topsy-turvy and nobody knows which end is up, I nail it all down, I put everything in place again.” Psalm. 75:2

The Lord has been very vocal to many about the times we are in. He told us these things so that when they happen we would not surrender to confusion or doubt, and it would deepen our belief in Him. He told us these things so we could stand on His Word and hold on “until these calamities have passed by.” Psalm 57:1 When things don’t look like we thought, Do not forget nor turn away from the words of My mouth.” Proverbs 4:5

Victory is right around the corner! For I have faith in God that it will happen just as He told me. Acts 27:25

I am standing in absolute stillness, silent before the One I love, waiting as long as it takes for Him to rescue me. Only God is my Savior, and He will not fail me. Psalm. 62:5
