Tools In The Shed – A Word by Jennifer Foster

Jennifer Foster

Recently the Lord showed me a vision to me in this vision I saw a set of tools of all kinds. Some more saws others were screwdrivers and yet others were some type of cutting tool like machetes. Suddenly I saw a tool shed that looked broken down and dilapidated. Then I saw the tools inside were rusted and no longer usable. The state of the tool shed had made the tools of no effect. Immediately I knew that the tools represented gifts and talents given by the Lord, and the toolshed represented our inner man. Many people carry incredible gifts and talents inside of them, but their tool sheds are in danger of becoming in ruins and many have already begun to breakdown. The tools in many sheds are beginning to not be as sharp and as useful as they once were. You see, the things about rusty tools that they take lots of strife and effort to operate. They take lots of MANpower. We must push extra hard, and we must really fight hard to get the job done. And even then, 9 times out of 10 the result is that the product that the tools were used on is left damaged and often irreparable. So, it is with the spirit. This is what happens when we neglect the place of prayer, fasting and the Word.

When we go through life using our gift without proper maintenance of our inner man after a while we begin to strive and try to make things happen in our own strength and out own ability. As the grace begins to lift for the assignment we soon begin operating in the flesh with no regard for people or what is on the Lord’s heart for that season. Though we may still be able to use our gifts/talents they will end up hurting other people and we will end up causing severe damage to them. We must never forget that our tools require proper storage and maintenance. Our heart/ inner man is the place of storage. Proverbs 4:23 TPT instructs us “So above all, guard the affections of your heart, for they affect all that you are. Pay attention to the welfare of your innermost being, for from there flows the wellspring of life.” Everything that we do for the Lord and his people is going to depend on how diligently we have stewarded our hearts. Therefore, the Lord tells us in John 15:5 “”I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.“ You see, when we come into His presence, we get the oil of his joy. This oil keeps us sharp and lubricated. Both sharp in discernment, accuracy and lubricated in our ability to bend and adapt to life’s ever-changing circumstances as well as the constant demands of those around us. The Word of God is the light that reveals things in the shed that need maintenance. It also guides us so that we may choose the right tool for the right job.

However, a tool shed that isn’t regularly maintained will soon begin to break down and everything inside of it will eventually suffer damage and loss. “Is the axe to boast itself over the one who chops with it? Is the saw to exalt itself over the one who wields it? That would be like a club wielding those who lift it, Or like a rod lifting him who is not wood.” (Isaiah 10:15 ) Gifts alone cannot carry us through life. We must have a vibrant relationship with the Father, the Word and the Spirit to be properly aligned to fulfill our purpose our assignment. Moreover the word tell us “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:10. In this season it is of utmost importance to keep the main thing the main thing. His Presence, His Word & His Spirit at the forefront of everything we do.

My prayer for you “Father, I ask you to shine your light into our hearts. Lord help us to make the right course corrections and whatever changes necessary to be able to fully rely on your Spirit more than our giftings, talents or abilities. Lord forgive us for the times we have gotten into striving, fighting, competing and trying to do it on our own. Help us Father to find our worth, vale & fulfillment in your presence and not simply in the things we do for you. We recognize that we are your workmanship and that you have been created us for good works, but we do not want to do these separate from you. Lord we thank you for your grace, your heart and your power to enables us to carry out the assignment you have given us to do to the best of our ability, Holy Spirit I thank you for leading us into all truth. You Jesus, the Living Word are perfect theology. Amen.”

I want to encourage you today to ask the Lord “Father how’s my toolshed?” Remember, tools are nice but, in your quest to get things done don’t forget about the toolshed.
