Undermining Thoughts Can Erode Our Foundation – A Word by Harmony Vuycankiat

I feel today that the enemy is trying to undermine the plans of God in your life with negative thoughts about God’s purpose for you.

As I was praying this morning, I caught myself having undermining thoughts that sounded like “You’ll never complete that project.”, “It’s been done before so what makes you different?”, and “No one cares what you have to say.” Immediately, I knew they were thoughts planted by the enemy and that he was trying to steal my destiny.

Then, the faithful Lord intervened as he always does and he spoke the word UNDERMINE to me. I looked it up and it means “erode the base or foundation of (a rock formation), lessen the effectiveness, power, or ability of, especially gradually or insidiously.” (Source: Google Dictionary)

Wow. So, we can actually lose our effectiveness for the Kingdom of God if we allow undermining thoughts from the enemy to stay put in our minds. If we listen to these thoughts and give them our attention, our foundation begins to fall apart.

Imagine this for a minute. Without proper drainage, undermining thoughts can build up until we are functioning from a very shaky and unstable place. Ask the Lord to show you a picture of what it looks like when the foundation of a structure begins to erode. An outside force comes in (water) and it finds a place to settle within the foundation if there isn’t a proper channel in place for it to flow out of. The erosion then begins to affect the outside of the structure with visible cracks and deterioration.

This is how the enemy works, too. If he can get us off track by planting undermining thoughts in our minds that keep us from walking in God’s power then we lose sight of our dreams and we basically give the enemy the right to sabotage us. We must have a drainage system called the Word of God already established within our minds to prevent this trespassing from taking place.

Immediately after the Lord highlighted UNDERMINE to me, he then changed the conversation to one that focuses on our great strength through Christ. He reminded me that for every undermining thought the enemy tries to deceive us with the Lord has placed Satan UNDER OUR FEET! See how he directed me to the truth?! This is the drainage system working!

We are not powerless, Church! In fact, Luke 10:19 says we are powerful!

“NOW YOU UNDERSTAND THAT I HAVE IMPARTED TO YOU ALL MY AUTHORITY TO TRAMPLE OVER HIS KINGDOM. YOU WILL TRAMPLE UPON EVERY DEMON BEFORE YOU AND OVERCOME EVERY POWER SATAN POSSESSES. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WILL BE ABLE TO HARM YOU AS YOU WALK IN THIS AUTHORITY.” (TPT)

Jesus has given us his authority to stomp on the head of the enemy and the first way to do this is to reject the lies he puts in our heads. There are too many powerless Christians walking around today believing that they have to live with fear, shame, or discouragement but I’m here to tell you that we must stop playing defense and start playing offense. We need to soak in the truth so that when the undermining thoughts come into our mind, we can immediately see them for what they are and reject them so they don’t take root. It’s when they take root and build up that our foundation starts to crumble.

Be encouraged today, friends! You have been armed with the greatest weapon to the enemy of your soul that there ever has been or ever will be: JESUS! His blood makes you unstoppable but you must apply it. Use your authority to advance the kingdom of God with the many gifts the Lord has placed inside of you. Meditate on the Word, friends. This is how we fight our battles!
