Where are the Elijah’s of God?

2 Kings 2:13-14 (NKJV) He also took up the mantle of Elijah that had fallen from him, and went back and stood by the bank of the Jordan. Then he took the mantle of Elijah that had fallen from him, and struck the water, and said, “Where is the Lord God of Elijah?” And when he also had struck the water, it was divided this way and that; and Elisha crossed over.

Imagine how Elisha must of felt to see his best friend being taken up to heaven. The friend who was his mentor. The friend who he witnessed moved with the supernatural power of God. The friend he followed daily. Now he was left all alone.

Just as Elisha asked the question “Where is the Lord God of Elijah?”, there has been times in our walk and ministry where we asked the same question. Wanting to know if God is still there, or if He still moving today like He did before. “God, will you use me to further your kingdom just as you did my anointed friend?”. But what if God was to ask us this question, “Where are the Elijah’s of God?”

Daniel 11:32 (NKJV) Those who do wickedly against the covenant he shall corrupt with flattery; but the people who know their God shall be strong, and carry out great exploits.

Elijah did great exploits for the kingdom because of the favor and anointing that God filled Elijah with. But for God to move through him, Elijah had to be a man of faith. A man who trusts God with all he was called to do, never doubting, not wavering in faith. Nothing is impossible with God, but we still must believe.

James 5:17 (NIV) Elijah was a human being, even as we are. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years.

Just as Elijah operated in signs, wonders, and miracles, we too can do mighty exploits for the kingdom! He was a regular person just like us. The difference is that he answered the call, and was full of faith. Throughout history of the prophetic movement, many spiritual mothers and fathers have taught us that the gifts of the Holy Spirit are for all who believe. They too were just ordinary regular people who served an extraordinary and powerful God! Supernatural power of God is not limited to an “elite” group of ministers. But we can limit how God will use us through unbelief and disobedience. The same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead dwells in us too!

John 14:12-13 (NKJV) “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.”

Greater works! How is that possible? Jesus’ ministry here on earth was very short, so how is it possible for us to do greater works? Think about how many years that God used Billy Graham to preach the gospel where thousands of people have been saved. Or how many people Oral Roberts prayed for that were healed in Jesus’ name. They too were just “human beings” like us, but they answered the call, believed, and were obedient to God! So it is possible that greater works we can do in Jesus’ name.

Just as Elijah was taken away from Elisha, we too have had spiritual mothers and fathers who have gone on to be with the Lord. What better way to remember them then by living our life as they had lived. Elisha didn’t mourn, instead he went on to do mighty exploits for the kingdom of God just as Elijah did. Elisha answered the call, he was full of faith, and obedient to God. Radical faith!

Rise up mighty warrior of God! Sound the trumpet. Raise up a banner. Be bold as lions. God has given us the weapons, tools, and resources we need to further His kingdom! Jesus is our Dread Champion who is leading the way! He is also our Rear Guard watching our back! We have nothing to fear. Go forth and do great exploits for God!
